For this special evening the long standing Petra Haller and Meg Morley tap dance and piano duo are joined by the amazing Loz Speyer on Trumpet and Percussion, for an improvised concert at St Mary’s Church In Pudney, London.

Loz Speyer is a trumpeter, composer, bandleader and teacher working in Jazz and related music. Over the last 25 years he has initiated and led bands ranging from the 11-piece composers’ collective Rare Mix to freely improvising trios. His own Cuban-Jazz sextet Time Zone and his Free Jazz quintet Inner Space, both ongoing since 2003, have toured to Jazz festivals and clubs all around the UK, and released several critically acclaimed albums of original music.

Haller and `Morley present a completely improvised concert, playing off one another to create and experience of both free-wheeling athleticism and highly disciplined technique drawing from their combined experience and training in jazz, classical styles and free improvisation.

As a whole, the show both broadened my knowledge of tap dancing and increased my interest in improvisation, specifically in genres such as jazz. Haller is a tap dancer based in London. She has studied at Escola Luthier in Barcelona, Europe’s only full-time tap dance school, and at workshops under Jason Samuels Smith, Derick Grant and Andrew Nemr. These mentors taught her the dance style and introduced her to it’s African-American roots — the cultural foundation for all jazz music. She is successfully establishing herself in the jazz and improvised music scene and she became the first tap dancer ever named in Jazz Wise Magazine’s “Rising Jazz Artists : Who to look out for in 2020”

Classically trained from the age of two, Melbourne-born, London-based musician Meg Morley was awarded Distinctions by the Australian Music Examination Board for its Associate and Licentiate diplomas in piano. She completed a Masters of Music in classical performance, and a Postgraduate Certificate in composition. She studied Jazz improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts.
